Rebecca "Becky" Gates
Rebecca "Becky" Gates announces her candidacy for Dubois County Recorder.
This will be her first time to run for a public office. However, the office she will seek is quite familiar.
Gates has worked in the Recorder's Office for the past fifteen years; first as deputy recorder and eventually as Chief Deputy Recorder.
In her early years at the Recorders Office, documents were recorded by written hand in large heavy entry books and also copied into books. In the mid 1990's Gates was essential in assisting with the set-up of the first computer system; which to this day is continually updated and improved.
Documents are now scanned, redacted, and able to be brought up on computer screens. Gates feels that her past experience, along with her vast job diversity skills, highly qualify her to be the next Recorder of Dubois County.
Gates, 58, is a member of the Indiana Association of County Recorders and active in the Dubois County Democrat Central Committee. She is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, The Daughters of Isabella, and a member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, where she has served as past treasurer.
Gates lives on Reyling Drive in Jasper. Gates, a widow, was married to Mike Gates for 33 years before his death in 2006. He was killed in an automobile accident in Greene County.
They are the parents of three children, Courtney (Mrs. Andrew) Hughes, Ben, his wife Carrie, and Lindsey (Mrs. Jordan) Hamilton. They have two grandsons. Gates is the daughter of the late Harold and Della Englert.
Gates is the Democratic candidate on the ballot for the November 2 general election.
It has been her pleasure serving the tax payers of Dubois County, and if elected to the office, she personally guarantees to be accessible and provide friendly and courteous customer service.
